It’s always good to be in Iceland.

Although not our home, it has become a place that is very close to our hearts and to which we always return filled with joyful anticipation.

We set off for Iceland in 2006, the first of many trips in an incredible adventure of photographic discovery.

Time spent in the silence of uninhabited wilderness has a character all of its own; we felt in harmony with the nature that surrounded us. We had the opportunity to travel across the island in many ways, traversing the highlands and the coast by foot, driving to the remotest corners and even hitch-hiking for many weeks. We made good use of the time that was available to us; the time to pay attention, to witness light changing its mood. While moving through this ever-changing scenery, we realised that photographic inspiration can arise unexpectedly at any point in our journey. We were to spend thirty weeks in this landscape, returning again and again, each time capturing new moments of splendour, special harmonies of light, shape and colour. When photographing, our desire is to capture a mood rather than to record a particular place; geographical locations have played a secondary role in this book. The photographs that we have chosen are our personal impressions, and their arrangement representing episodes in the narration of the whole story.

As photographers who love the natural environment we have relished the opportunity to develop this appreciation and admiration in such a special place.

That is why we love Iceland.
